Guardian Angels

Angels are everywhere this time of year! Hanging on trees, surrounding manger scenes, and on Christmas cards.

Do you believe in angels? There are so many stories about ordinary people and their encounters with angels. Sometimes a mysterious person will show up in a time of need only to leave without a trace once help has arrived.  Sometimes they show up to comfort during times of loneliness or despair.  I have read a few books about various encounters and am always amazed.  Whether you believe in them or not, I can’t help but believe something is in control during those times.

My daughter and four grandchildren were returning home one evening from a movie this past year. They were all safely strapped in her minivan as they drove along the dark, wet pavement.   As the van approached a poorly marked curve in the road, my daughter was taken off guard.  As a result, she went off the road and the car flipped over.  She remembers going over once, but an eye-witness stated it was several times.  By the grace of God, the car stopped upright and they emerged from the van, stunned, but uninjured ~ Thanks and praise to you dear God.  My son-in-law petitioned the county to place more signs along the curve since several accidents have occurred at this same location in hopes of preventing a possible tragedy.  The county complied and put up a few more signs along this curve in the road.

Perhaps they were saved because they were all securely strapped in their seat belts. Perhaps they were saved by divine intervention. Perhaps they were each surrounded by their guardian angels whose celestial bodies cushioned the impact.  We will never know; but I do know that I am eternally grateful to my heavenly Father for the protection of the most precious cargo on that dark, wet night.

Psalm 91:10-12 “no harm will overtake you; no disaster will come near your tent.  For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
